What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle yet powerful form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese terms:
"Rei" meaning universal and "Ki" meaning life energy – the same vital force known as Qi in Chinese or Prana in Sanskrit.

Reiki is based on the understanding that a universal life energy flows through all living beings. When this energy becomes blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to stress, fatigue, or illness. A Reiki practitioner helps realign and restore this natural flow, supporting the body’s ability to heal itself—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Whether you are looking to relieve anxiety, reduce pain, or reconnect with your inner calm, Reiki offers a safe, non-invasive path to balance and well-being.

FAQs

  • Please wear loose clothing and avoid driving or cycling to the clinic. You will likely feel very deeply relaxed after the treatment, and it would be wise to avoid stress (such as fighting through London traffic) for the rest of the day. Please also avoid caffeine and stay well hydrated.

  • Wear loose clothing

  • In the hours that follow, the body processes the treatment. When it balances itself, it can occasionally lead to feeling a bit sleepy or hungry. Occasionally, one can experience a healing crisis (see point below in the FAQ). If this happens, it is best to simply wait it out : just allow yourself some rest and stay well hydrated.

  • A Reiki healing crisis is a temporary physical, emotional, or mental reaction that some people experience after receiving Reiki energy healing. It's often described as part of the body's natural detox and rebalancing process as stagnant or blocked energy is released.

Symptoms of a Reiki healing crisis can include:

    • Fatigue or extreme tiredness

    • Emotional release: crying, anger, sadness, mood swings

    • Headaches or dizziness

    • Digestive upset: nausea, diarrhea, bloating

    • Flu-like symptoms

    • Sleep changes: insomnia or excessive sleep

    • Heightened sensitivity (to light, sound, people, emotions)

These symptoms can appear within 1–3 days after a Reiki session and typically last from a few hours to a few days.

    ⚠️ Important Considerations

    • Healing crises are not guaranteed: Not everyone experiences one, and it doesn’t mean the session “didn’t work” if you don’t.

    • Not a substitute for medical care: If symptoms are severe or don't improve, always consult a medical professional.

    • Gentle follow-up: Aftercare such as rest, hydration, journaling, and gentle movement can help ease the process.
